From Where I Stand ... (Best Shot Monday)
These are the things that are pleasing my spirit right now:
Saturday mornings at the farmer's markets (yes, we have many to choose from!) and the excitement of new discoveries such as this:
Chinese Spinach which is a magnificent purple color. It is so pretty, it has to be healthy!
New projects (can we say electric drill - yes, learning how to use new tools) from The Artistic Mother by Shona Cole. I already made a name plate for Cowgirl and was inspired to make this one as a gift for a dear friend's new baby. Look at those impossibly tiny and equally precious toes!
Speaking of new tools, I am dabbling more with Photo Shop and learning tons from Susan Tuttle's new book Digital Expressions. If I only had hours to spend playing around. This digital collage sums up where I am right now:
But at the end of the day, here is where my passion and my heart lies:
Seriously, can it get any better?
Happy Memorial day ... what are you taking time to celebrate?

love this story. my favorite shot is that last one. it's the poetry of motherhood.
ReplyDeleteI was doing a little blog surfing and came across your page. I love the title and the picture you have that goes with it! I'm taking time to celebrate swimming. I love the feeling of being under the water. And, of course, friendships. It's always great to celebrate the people that are there for you. Happy Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Today I am celebrating the bravery and sacrifice of our active and retired military personnel, including my husband and many of our loved ones :)
ReplyDeleteOur local farmers markets are in full bloom now that summer is almost officially here. I love going. That purple spinach looks gorgeous. I'm wondering if fabric could be dyed in the water its cook in :)) I love the photos too. What version of photo shop are you using? I have an older version which I don't use very much. Mostly I use Paint Shop Pro for my post processing but I'd love to learn more with programs that do a lot more. Love the name plate. The butterflies really speak to me.
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteHow was the Chinese Spinach?
And oh yes...Photoshop and I have a long-standing affair. The digital collage is STUNNING...beautiful energy is just exuding from it.
Again, as always, stunning photos.
Seriously - how do you DO it all? Between the classes, the books, cowgirl....goodness. You inspire me!
I love every inch of this post -- from the shot of the gorgeous spinach with it's graceful curve, to your daughter from behind in her pastel pjs, to that bandaid poking out of the bath, to the well-chosen, unexpected composition of the lat shot. OH, and I forgot the two major art projects -- beautiful work. Now I really feel like a slacker.
ReplyDeleteLis, I love checking in here to see you capturing and celebrating the joys in your life. You're right...it doesn't get any better.
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by to let you know I finally posted my project this morning. Go on over to 52 projects and take a peek :)
ReplyDeleteDear Lis-I love your Best Shots-all of them-the composition and color of the first one ...now I want to buy some Chinese Spinach (is that the same as Swiss Chard?). And all the pics of your baby girl-beautiful! I love the way you capture the moment and leave so much to our imagination...intimate and involved.
ReplyDeleteI read your post the first day on Kelly's class and ...I think it's BRILLIANT that you want to combine art and yoga. I don't think that has been done before but it sounds fascinating. And POWERFUL! You are a born (natural) teacher Lis-I got that from the very first time. I think that you will excel on this path you are forging. In WWRWW, Dr. Estes says that if we can't find this "soul-full" place we are looking for, we must create it and others who are looking for the same will come and find it. About your concerns regarding your passion becoming "drudgery" ...I can understand that. In my experience though, even though I am so passionate about my painting and I love it, there are times when it is sheer hard work and time and frustration. I think it's because I love it so much, I continue. Yesterday's post was physiologically heavy....I did not see a post from you (but I am having a hard time keeping up with all the comments)....what i am realising more and more is this...WE all have pretty much the SAME fears!!! they are universal and we have to conquer them and do our best regardless of the (perceived) outcome. When you get a chance, tell me what you think of the class so far. I love it and knew that Kelly is the real deal. I took an e-course a few months ago where the instructor was so uninvolved, it wasn't like I was taking a class at all-I did not even know when the class ended!! I know that this class is going to be a life-changer for us all:)
P.S. Also-I think that more and more, people are realising the curative and healing powers of yoga. It has been around for thousands of years because...it works!
ReplyDelete~lis...your digital photos are brilliant!! i think you have stumbled upon an inner gift that speaks truly of what and where your heart is...i am l♥♥♥ving your process! i think each moment only gets better if we welcome the change...accepting what is and what is waiting to be...such precious moments and her little piggies in your collage melt my heart...much l♥ve and light upon you and yours always...brightest blessings~
ReplyDeleteI love Susan Tuttle's blog, now I have to get her book!
ReplyDeleteAll your photos are excellent but I especially love the shot of Cowgirl in the bath where her legs are straight and you can see the band aid. That just epitomizes childhood for me. It's so sweet. Bathtime with my daughter is probably my favorite time of all :)
What wonderfully pleasing things! I particularly like the last lot - your children.
ReplyDeleteThose bathtub pictures remind me of when my kids were little. Tubby time was always my job. I miss that.
