turning up the fire ...
rolling up the proverbial sleeves and getting to it ... feeling all kinds of feisty and fired up ... first from this:
Then there is this:
I am a bit disheveled from the explosiveness of it all ...
but in a good way. In a way that is hearing the mermaids singing, is recovering the lost stories within ...
My heroine is taking shape ...
I can't say much more ... superstitious I suppose, but I don't want to scare away the magical ones.
Yes, I am clearing my path forward through the brambles, the heather, skirting the poison ivy and seeking the honeysuckle. Tally ho! Feeling the vibrations of Beltane in the air ... rabbits playing tag in my yard, mourning doves screaming as they fly. I'm all 50-shades of whirling dervish ... I attribute it to the excellent company I find myself keeping these days ...
Hang on, it's going to be a wild ride!

no baby, if you're going to create
you're going to create whether you work
16 hours a day in a coal mine
or
you're going to create in a small room with 3 children
while you're on

you're going to create with part of your mind and your

demented,
you're going to create with a cat crawling up your

the whole city trembles in earthquake, bombardment,
flood and fire.
baby, air and light and time and space
have nothing to do with it
and don't create anything
except maybe a longer life to find
new excuses
for.

an insistent call ...
I consider myself somewhat of an expert in daydreaming. As a child road trips involved flopping about the backseat of my mother's cream colored Impala to find a comfortable and cool spot out of the sun (this being the era before air-conditioning and mandatory seat belt use) and staring out the window, creating movies inside my head to pass the time. To this day, I tend to fall mute on any road trip my interiority annoying to The Husband who would talk or listen to music.
My nature is quiet and rather sloth-like. Yet there comes a time when I must apply effort to channel the inner out. A backlog of ideas, images, impulses to create a specific thing rattle around my head, distracting and disturbing the peaceful, easy daydream feeling.
So I find myself reaching for familiar structures of support as I seek to birth a fantasy long-held and only half-heartedly attempted in the past. I know when I seek the freedom of creative energy I must exercise a fair bit of discipline and structure to constructive channel this energy.
I turn to what I know from 20 years of a yoga practice: show up daily, set a clear intention, be open, let go of my notions of what should or ought to happen (way too small for magic to exist in) and hold space for the unexpected to arise. The foundation is hard work: I must do my part and then trust Creative Flow to come in and take care of the rest. To meet any Call is to suspend the rational, logical mind in favor of the spacious, daydreaming, anything-is-possible-when-you-step-out-of-the-way mind.
Still, one must go in prepared ...
Practice is how I prepare for the magic. Practice is how I clear space for the miraculous. Practice makes us more likely to be accident prone in the sense of hearing the Call and the grace in knowing it is speaking to me.
I would love some company on this portion of the journey ... I would love to support you in making your way:
Further details and registration information can be found here.
Final days for early bird registration and bonus gift of a mentoring session.
There's no perfect time to start ... you just have to decide you can no longer wait ... you must choose to answer the Call before you can surrender to it ...

Mandala Moon Play
As I prepare for The Gift of Practice
online offering, I am finding myself inspired to dive deeper into
processes that have nourished me in the past. One practice that I have
turned to repeatedly for guidance and insight is the Mandala.
A mandala is a circular format representing the wholeness of existence. At a basic level the circular template means there is no one area of dominance (top versus bottom) other than a central point : inner flows into outer, top flows around to bottom and back up again. Working within the shape of the mandala, our eye and hand travel around the surface, often spinning the mandala and shifting perspective as we work within it.
According to psychologist Carl Jung, mandalas are "the psychological expression of the totality of the self." Jung posited that in working with mandalas, we tap into archetypal symbols and messages that constitute the collective unconsciousness. Jung equated the mandala with the eye, expressing the action of Seeing merging into Consciousness. To create a mandala is to See the play of our physical and spiritual impulses, urges, desires, struggles and triumphs.
Given the round format of the mandala, it seems natural to equate it to the fullness of the Moon. Thinking about the natural cycle of the moon as it transitions from empty (new) to full, and back to empty again, is a beautiful example of our own energy patterns. Emptying myself of what no longer serves or describes me, opening to fill and receive new insights, new possibilities, transiting into an every expanding understanding of myself and life. From that new perspective, I begin once again the process of shedding what no longer fits into this new perspective. And so I roll!
According to different world cultures, each month's full moon offers symbolic teachings attuned to the seasons. As part of my mandala practice, I will be meditating upon the life lessons of each month, utilizing the energy of the New Moon (new beginnings) to assist me in setting an intention for myself for that moon cycle. What I hope to create is a monthly "snapshot" of my inner growth tied to the seasons along with a kind of monthly mindfulness practice.
Knowing that any journey is enriched by like-minded company, I am proffering this handmade invitation to have you join me:
direct link to video through vimeo here
Mandala Moon Play will be a once a month email with written prompts and ideas; material suggestions; an audio link to a recorded guided visualization on that month's moon energy; and a private flickr group account where we can upload our images and share through comments or discussion threads. As I sit here brewing all this up (literally, on the spot!) I am envisioning postcards or a group journal to commemorate a seasonal or yearly cycle of mandalas.
The first cycle - the Autumn moons - begins October 4. Each month's email will arrive in time for the New Moon (November 3, December 2, January 1 & 30; March 1). You can opt to join for Autumn or Winter (3 practices) for $21 or for the entire 6 months (last half of the seasonal year/6 practices) for $30.
Registration will open on September 16. I can't wait! (Well, I couldn't wait ... I already worked on this months Mandala for the Harvest or Brown Bear Moon.)
Feeling the cooler breezes and hints of Autumn reawakening and recharging me. Time to harvest the wisdom from the previous seasons of intense work and play. I'd love to have you join me! (registration info will be posted over on my InnerGlow Self Care page.)

video ♥
I've been crazy busy recording interviews for my upcoming offering The Gift of Practice. I am having so much fun! The opportunity to delve into juicy conversation around creative practice, spiritual work, integration of daily life with soul-full purpose has been an immense gift for me and I am excited to be sharing these conversations as a weekly component to the course. Some of my favorite and most inspirational people have generously agreed to speak with me over a variety of practices including painting, art journaling, drawing, writing, poetry and photography.
It is hard this working for oneself, but at the end of the day I fall into bed exhausted in a good way - exhausted because I've emptied myself out, but exhilarated because I am also being filled repeatedly day in and day out. As one of my guest interviewees put it: I've found and am following my yellow brick road.
I would love to have you on this journey with me. As an added incentive to join, I am offering 45 minute one-on-one Skype or phone counsel sessions with me so that we can tailor the offering to align with your interests and needs. If you know anything about me, it's that I am a master plate spinner and at any given moment have a number of practices I rely upon to support me in being fully engaged with my self and my life. I would love to work with you to craft a practice uniquely suited to support you in finding your center, your spark of joy and source of connection to deeper purpose and meaning. To qualify for the counsel sessions, you must register before midnight on August 24. For more information and to register, go here. I'm eager and itching to begin!

my early Valentine
I am cross-posting here ... (ah, the confusion of multiple sites!) but for those of you who may not know my alter ego (no not Wonder Woman although I could do so much with those indestructible bracelets and lasso of truth!) I have been experimenting in online offerings over here. I think of it as my little playground ... or laboratory of dangerous thoughts?
I have something new which is really exciting me as I am not certain What will manifest but I do know Why I am compelled to be leaping anyway.
I just feel it in my heart. I feel and trust this intense desire to have a space to gather and share the stories of the heart, exploring the lessons and challenges of loving wide open and the power and wisdom gained by aligning ourselves with our hearts.
My notebook is filling up with ideas. I am stepping into this flow and allowing it to carry me and damn! it feels good!
I love making soup. I often have only a basic recipe in mind when I start cooking. The intention is always to make something nourishing, tasty, warm and filling. As I add the first ingredients, other items seem to offer themselves up. Flavors, colors, tastes and textures magically come together. Truly, the binding elements are love and magic.
Each of us is a unique ingredient necessary for a hearty bowl of love soup. Can't you just taste it?
I'm already bubbling with excitement ... must be careful not to boil over!
All the details are here.
Further enticement (2 minute love letter):

I promise to return to regularly scheduled programming next week :) Lots to share regarding monopoly games, knitting adventures, painterly messes and other mommy moments. I certainly could use those killer Wonder Woman boots!
